The executive branch is responsible for making many important decisions in day-to-day government; implementing the idea of leadership reviews forces party leaders to keep tabs on their policies and keep their promises. This essay will argue that leadership reviews help keep government in check and hold true to its principles. Shown through the use of accountable government and election audits, this allows the public to be reassured that elected officials are keeping the promises they make. In other words, leadership reviews are a useful way to assure the public that party leaders are not doing something that will negatively affect the economy and are not being held accountable for their words. Leadership reviews are widely used across Canada at the federal and provincial levels. A modern example of how leadership reviews ensure that politicians do not use their power as political power to abuse the system is Alberta Premier Alison Redford who recently had a leadership review vote to see if there would be elections for a new Prime Minister. Leadership reviews are more common in provincial-level parties, although the federal level is not directly considered a leadership review, it can be seen as a form of leadership review through accountable government. Responsible government is used in the House of Commons to ensure that the Prime Minister respects the wishes of the House and keeps promises made. Leadership reviews are commonly seen in parties that are in power and run the government, but parties that are not in power could benefit from such policies because it could be the work of superiors who are lowering the middle of the paper. .....multi-party system because it forces parties to change their original hopes for the government in order to please the majority of people outside the party, overall it is beneficial to the government as it directly shows them the desires of the people. Leadership reviews are useful for parties in power and beyond because they have the benefit of informing parties about what people expect from government. Overall leadership reviews and accountable government help keep Canada as democratic as possible because it gives voice to people's opinions outside of election periods peacefully and effectively.
