Morality and ethics guide people towards the correct or rather acceptable line of conduct. This applies to both personal relationships and personal conduct in business. It is therefore important to understand what these concepts mean. Morality is the set of culturally based rules about right and wrong behavior that have evolved over time. According to Joseph Migga Kizza (2011), “Morality is a set of rules of right conduct, a system used to modify and regulate behavior. It is a system of quality by which we judge human acts to be right or wrong, good or bad” (p.12). Ethics deals with the reasoning behind morality, or the underlying logic that leads to morality. Joseph Migga Kizza (2011) describes ethics as “…a theoretical examination of morality or 'moral theory'” (p.18). Ethics, morality and law are the typical foundation of an organization's code of ethics or code of conduct. The code of conduct of Microsoft and Google will be analyzed below. Microsoft Standards of Business Conduct Microsoft's Standards of Business Conduct uses morality, ethics, and the law to formulate its code. The document begins with a statement of values ​​in which the moral concepts of honesty, integrity, respect and responsibility are present. Also in the opening section is the ethical concept, the willingness to face great challenges, which empowers the employee to make decisions based on what will be best for the company, in line with the utilitarian philosophy. Utilitarian philosophy states that the best action is that which creates the greatest good for all. The last section of the document outlines a series of legal obligations for employees, such as requesting guidance on compliance with company practices, reporting violations of the...... middle of the document... code, employees advice is offered to help you make the right decision.
