Mr. Buchanan tends to dive headfirst into every situation. The narrator of this novel, Nick Carraway, provides insight into how careless Tom truly is. “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy: they destroyed things and creatures and then retreated into their money.” (179) Nick's quote regarding the Buchanans shows how they look down on others for the simple fact that they can do so because they have the money to do so. As for Tom having old money, Daisy married him for convenience and lifestyle. Eventually, bored with Daisy, he falls in love with his lover Myrtle Wilson, but in the end Tom stays with the woman he believes is best for his life and love.,
