The only thing is that the language and style of the book is very simple, in my opinion it is written at a high school level, which makes it a very easy and quick read, it was so easy that I read it during work breaks. This story is about a boy named Martin Jones, who is a young football player trying to get into an NFL team at one of the training camps. "Making a team is a goal. But striving for greatness is a life mission. There's a difference and you gotta be honest with yourself and you gotta be honest with me" (Gordon 24). Everything is fine until disaster strikes and he gets hurt and an injury sidelines him and he has to sit out. This makes him stressed, scared and unsure of what to do next. So he goes to the team coach and a coach, they took him under their care and starts training his mind, from which he learns that to be the best, he has much more to learn on and off the field. What he learns from one of the coaches who takes him under his wing, Coach Ken, is beyond that, some lessons he teaches players so they can succeed or even be great on and off the field, forever. I've read a lot of development books since I learned to read, and there's always something in them that you can learn and make you a better person, and this one is no different. Most of the lessons Martin learned in the story, Training Camp, are things I read and learned from other books I read, some of his quotes are. very similar to books I've read, like one by Rick Warren in The Purpose Driven Life, but because it's in a qu...... middle of paper ...... inspires others. A person who pursues excellence raises the standards of everyone around them. And they do it both in their work and in their lives” (Gordon 148). By doing all eleven of these things you will be on your way to becoming the best, and perhaps the greatest, of all time. Basically the best must want it more than anyone else and continue practicing even when everyone is asleep. “How can you measure desire? Everyone has a desire to accomplish something meaningful and make an impact… The best of the best don't just think about their desire for greatness, they act on it. They have a high working capacity. They do things that others don't and spend more time doing them. When everyone else is asleep, the best practice, think, and improve” (Gordon 40-41). They also need to remember the eleven steps highlighted in the book.
