Topic > Destiny in Oedipus: Free Will and Destiny - 1239

His desire for knowledge along with continually trying to find answers about himself is something the Gods did to make him this way. I think that whatever path Oedipus chose, it could not be avoided. He cannot escape the fate chosen by the Gods, no matter what would have happened during the show, he would still end up killing his father and marrying his mother. When Oedipus reached the crossroads where he killed his father, it was fate that led him there, “a short effort, but God with a stroke of the stick”. This shows that he had no free will in this choice because there were events that led him to where he would kill his father. Although he was using his own decision-making process, he was unable to change his fate. How he handles things because, oh, who he has become is something that will ultimately make his destiny come true
