The Myth of Pandora's Box has always caught my attention. According to Farlex's free dictionary, Pandora's box is defined as “a source of extensive but unexpected trouble or trouble” (Pandora's+box, Farlex). It is very fascinating to me to think that one person, Pandora, could be responsible for most of the world's ills. The controversy over whether hope is a good or bad thing also catches my attention. These are some of the main reasons why I chose to interpret this myth. I enjoyed having the freedom to be creative and found myself making connections and interpretations that I found interesting. However, deciding and creating the product was not easy. I chose to work with Cicely Wilson to create the adaptation. With a vast number of myths to choose from, the decision was very difficult. We thought about playing a myth about Zeus or Poseidon but those ideas didn't seem to appeal to us as much as others. However, after much contemplation and discussion, I suggested the myth of Pandora's Box of Evil. Once we made the decision, we had to figure out how to adapt it. We thought about it and had some ideas, but nothing that caught our attention. I wanted to be original and creative. After thinking about it for a few days, I finally came up with a decent idea. The central element of the myth is the box itself. I suggested my idea of recreating the box that Zeus gave to Pandora and creating a literal and physical adaptation of the myth. Once we found our idea, the research and construction began. One of the common interpretations of the myth is the biblical story of Adam and Eve. God gave Eve the command not to do something and she did it anyway. This adaptation isn't really... middle of paper... the ability to do what we want. I feel that Cicely and I produced a product that the class enjoyed. I discovered many things about the myth that I didn't know before. Plus, I made modern connections to the myth that I wouldn't have thought of if I didn't have to put together a product for it. I find that I feel much more comfortable talking about this myth because I know so much more about it than I ever imagined. Works Cited "A Quote from Barack Obama." Goodreads.
