Marcus Aurelius, Stoic philosopher and Roman emperor said, “Everything you hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything you see is a perspective, not the truth. Countless companies across the United States encourage families to try their mouth-watering foods, but it seems these families aren't interested in knowing what's in the food they're consuming. People should avoid pre-packaged foods. People should avoid prepackaged foods because they can be artificial. An artificial food is made up of different materials and ingredients to replicate the look of a real food. According to Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, "There are now year-round tomatoes, harvested when green and ripened with ethylene gas" (Food Inc). In other words, these chemicals are used to convince society that it is simply a healthy tomato, but only a few understand why it is so deliciously red. Additionally, just as these tomatoes are gas-flamed, the vast majority of other foods are affected by food dyes, dyes, and other additives to enhance the shape of fresh foods. Allowing companies to genetically modify, process, and preserve them for humans to consume and call it “food” is an insult to people's health. These pre-packaged edibles can be found in every corner of a local supermarket. The colors and additives themselves cannot be seen or tasted, yet they are used to improve the flavor and appearance of these foods. Additives used to preserve foods are not only found in the nutrition section, but are also used on other products such as makeup and toothpaste. Modern tests were conducted to ensure that some food coloring ingredients were harmless: "Many countries with similar controls on food colors also ban red No. 40" (food coloring 2). Identify...... half of the sheet......s. Foods are artificial, cause health risks and are controlling. Obviously, the food industry needs a drastic change. It is significant that people are aware of this problem because soon the food industry will take full control of the food supply. If people don't want to give them this power then they should buy organic foods and learn to hunt for themselves. Works Cited “Food Coloring.” Encyclopedia Britannica.
