Euripides: A Greek PlaywrightEuripides is a keen witness of human character and the father of psychological theatre. His works were modern at the time compared to others in the way he focused on the personal lives and motivations of his characters, in a way unfamiliar to Greek audiences. His works were often seen, in simple terms, as bad because critics were unable to understand his visions. The ideas and concepts developed by Euripides were accepted only after his death. According to legend, Euripides was born in Salamis on September 23, 480 BC, the day of the largest naval battle of the Persian War. Other sources estimate that he was born as early as 485 BC. His family is believed to be wealthy and influential. Euripides began to question his religion at a young age due to his contact with famous thinkers, such as Socrates and Protagoras. These important men may have influenced Euripides' way of thinking, which caused him to choose to write about certain themes in his works.
