He brings out the best in his people and they, in turn, follow him in achieving his goals. In other words, a true leader communicates aspirations and creates a shared passion for a common goal. To be effective, a leader must first believe in his vision so that he can convey his thoughts to others and consequently convince them of the importance of his idea. As a result, such a leader can guide people with a firm hand and create resonance at the same time. Finally, empathy is probably the primary emotional intelligence skill a great leader must demonstrate, and as the saying goes, “you can't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes.” Lance Armstrong, the cyclist who beat cancer and dedicated his life to the foundation he created for cancer patients, is a great modern example of a visionary leader. Since surviving this disease, his mission in life has become to help others have a better chance at fighting cancer. However, he is always confronted with reality, both when he was a patient and now when he helps others fight cancer. Lance never tried to hide the truth from either himself or his other patients, but instead fought to unite them and give them a common purpose; fight." I'm so happy that our young people missed the Depression and the Great War. But I regret that they missed the leaders I knew. Leaders who told us when things were tough and that we would have to sacrifice, and those hardships could last a long time.
