Words have power. It does not come from the vowels and consonants that compose them, nor does it arise from the resonance produced in our ears when they are pronounced. The power of words comes from the objects, experiences, ideas and truths they evoke in our minds when we hear them. These connections are powerful and have the ability to move and shape our lives as we respond to the words that are spoken to us or that we whisper to ourselves. We begin to form these associations as we learn language. In our memories, connections are made between our experiences and the sound of a word, which then informs the power a word might have in our life. For example, if a child touches a hot stove and burns his hand, mom immediately shouts: "IT'S HOT, HOT, HOT!" Then, in all likelihood, he will pick up the little girl and console her. If the burn is more than a slight redness of the skin, mothers will also take care of the wound. All this education will not erase from the child's mind the connection between the pain he felt in his hand and the word Hot. Now she has made a connection between the experience of an object and the word hot that will hold a power over her for the rest of her life. All someone around her will need in the future when she approaches an object is to say the word HOT and she will withdraw her hand to avoid getting burned. This is a wonderful ability we have as humans to use language to communicate meaningful truths to each other. about the objects, experiences, ideas, and truths that shape our lives. Part of what unites us as people and communities is the development of a common language that allows a single word to evoke the same idea of what that word represents. This is not... middle of the paper ......something much more precious awaits us in the future. It is better to be persistent and make something happen, rather than try to act only when we are confident that the Spirit is leading us. We must have the courage to embrace the discomfort of the present moment, to grasp the blessing that comes only by following the path of “No”. Then, and only then, will we clearly see the “Yes” that God has already prepared for us. When we get there, we will know full well how positive “No” really is. «The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” - Lamentations 3:24 For we are the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to do. - Ephesians 2:10 "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us," - Ephesians 3:20
