Topic > Analysis of Halsey's "Colors" - 1002

In the chorus Halsey describes everything as the color "blue". The color blue itself represents freedom and uncharted territory in the world and the skies; blue represents the color of the sky and seas. At the beginning of the chorus Halsey writes, "Everything is blue, his pills, his hands, his jeans", this shows her emotions towards Matthew and how within him she finds innocence and feels at peace. Although she feels at peace when she writes to Matthew, "And now I'm covered in colors peeling at the seams," this demonstrates how Halsey's deep infatuation with Matthew grows and her "colors" cover and fill her life causing her -destruction, or have your soul torn to pieces. Halsey uses color representation throughout her song describing Matthew and his emotions using the color blue for much of the chorus, then goes on to describe him as gray, "Everything is gray His hair, his smoke, his dreams And now it's so colorless he doesn't know what it means.” At this point he realizes how Matthew's life and all aspects of it, including his band, have a sad demeanor; the innocence in Matthew. The "relationship" between Halsey and Matthew continued through an infatuation of Halsey longing for love with someone who simply did not have a loving demeanor, causing her own self-destruction through her destructive behavior.
