Marriage represents the union of a man and a woman as a family. Although most countries have some form of wedding ceremony, wedding customs are different in many ways due to different backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. For example, Korea and Poland have different wedding customs involving symbolic food and drink at the wedding, wedding attire, and wedding reception. The first difference in wedding customs between a traditional Korean and a Polish one is the symbolic food and drinks. At the Korean wedding ceremony, the couple shares three spoons of rice, representing the meal they will share for the rest of their lives. Additionally, they pour Korean rice-based liquor into two cups. This symbolizes the union of their souls. However, bread, salt and wine are important features in Polish weddings.
