Bodybuilding - Strength and ConditioningWhen most people hear the term "bodybuilding", they think of hulking, inhuman-looking individuals, mostly male, who spend every waking minute in the gym lifting weights and injecting steroids. But this is not entirely true. Bodybuilding is much more complex than that, especially when it comes to nutrition. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. There are many different factors that come into play for professional bodybuilders, as well as the average person who is looking to gain muscle mass or whatever their fitness goals are. Some of these factors include nutrition, training, recovery, supplementation, as well as the controversial topic of drugs in the bodybuilding scene. Bodybuilding also has a unique history that should be addressed before delving into bodybuilding topics. Bodybuilding emerged in the late 1800s and early 1900s popularized by a man named Eugene Sandow, who was also considered the first bodybuilder. Most people have only heard the name Sandow when talking about the famous Sandow trophy that is won at the Mr. Olympia, the most elite bodybuilding competition held once a year in the fall. One name that people recognize is Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for having one of the greatest bodybuilding physiques of all time. Arnold was also considered the face of bodybuilding in its prime and was a great ambassador for the sport. Arnold began bodybuilding at the age of fifteen. Arnold's parents were not very enthusiastic about his new hobby, especially since his father was a strict police officer in a small town in Austria, where bodybuilding was an unknown thing.
