The question of recovering the extremely destroyed and chaotic state of New York became the main concern. Fortunately, thanks to the brilliant minds of people from all over the world, several inventions and advancements have come to life. After the war, even more immigrants arrived in the area while the French gift – The Statue of Liberty – became the symbol of freedom and hope for many potential immigrants. By the end of the 1700s the population had risen to 20,000. During the 1800s, New York's population had grown to over 60,000 people, and that was just the beginning. Later in the late 1800s, many more immigrants arrived in New York and they were mostly from Southern and Eastern Europe and China, which caused the population to steadily increase (Jackson and Dunbar 362). Along with the different immigrants came different religions who consequently built more churches and religious buildings which improved the cultural diversity of New York.
