Researcher Michael T Johnson analyzed data from the National Family Violence Survey in 1995. Johnson reported that “…young married Hispanic women were more likely to experience domestic violence” (). Racial and ethnic groups revealed differences in rates and forms of abuse. Researchers reported that African American and Hispanic women with low household income and low educational attainment experienced the highest rates of family and domestic violence. According to Women of Color Network (2006) “African American women reported 29.1% of intimate partner violence (sexually, physically, and mentally); Hispanic women instead report 21.2%” (p. 1-4). Rates of domestic violence among African American and Hispanic women have been linked to sociocultural beliefs of acceptance of spousal abuse; especially if women have low levels of education and are financially in good shape
