Mindlessness and awareness both have uses. The mindless part is the part that follows certain directions without thinking too much about it. They are the parts that activate during certain activities such as breathing, brushing your teeth and morning commutes. To be mindful is to be consciously aware, curious about whatever you are doing, while seeking new methods of understanding, new perspectives. This reminds me of the book "The Giver" Jonas has role models that he has had his whole life. The donor gives him new memories that shatter those patterns. They challenge everything he knows and break his patterns, forcing him to build new ones. Being aware is not easy: you need to make a conscious effort to be aware. If no conscious effort is made, awareness can turn into mindlessness. Awareness pays attention to new signals while unawareness assumes there is only one perspective. One way to be aware is to change the absolute to the conditional. Language can limit or expand our thinking. Changing your language can open up a world of possibilities. When something is presented as absolute it can lead to mindlessness, while if something is presented as conditional the mind can present several additional possibilities or limitations. He is actively engaged in the material that this can take in depth
