Odio says that ¨Poetry is not a set of ideas and words but a substantial order. A poem is the action of the Word. It is therefore impossible to analyze it, to isolate it down to the last chord. Always..., a generative act, a poem (Vallbona 25). And you can see it in his own poetry. As in his poems The Earthly Elements, you can feel the action of the Word. They are not just poems about love but they are movements of emotions, of blood and sweat and of the earth. They are poems that speak of a true soul. Eunice Odio is a poet who puts on paper the essence of the abstract mind of the human being. I will talk about how Odio describes love in The Earthly Elements, also the type of vocabulary she uses and how she combines nature with the bodies of human beings. Although Eunice Odio is known to most as a poet, she has written in other genres. He wrote short stories and critical essays on art and literature. But for all his poetry, he has not gained much attention from the Costa Rican public and literary critics. Her poetry appears in many Costa Rican and Latin American anthologies and newspapers, but few scholarly books have been written about her. Alfonso Chase, a critic from Costa Rica, states that the reason there is little attention on Odio is because she is very outspoken with her opinion on Puerto Rico (Vallbona 1). Her poetry is special because she writes from a woman's point of view. When she writes about love, she introduces aspects of nature and with those metaphors she manages to create love verses with an erotic flavor, which we have never seen come out of a woman with so much strength. Eunice Odio was born in San José, Costa Rica, the fact The exact date of her birth is unclear, but what we know is that she was born between 1919 and 1922. She was a very curious child and when she was four years old she demonstrated her independence and often ran away from home just to get around the city. In an interview, Odio says he learned to read in just two days of school (Jiménez 1). When he was nine years old he became seriously ill..
