Topic > Abortion: the case of Rove v. Wade - 993

It has been a major social issue since the 1970s and Roe v. Wade. Over the years, abortion has been discussed from both perspectives, for unborn children and against the denial of women's right to control their own bodies. Even though some say it should be legal, the act of abortion should be illegal because the process can be considered murder, people take advantage of this option and abuse the system and it can be a health risk to a woman's body. One of the biggest and most shocking problems with abortion is that it can be classified as murder. Technically the child begins life after conception where he can be considered a person. The “right to life statute” states that a child is considered a person by conception therefore making abortion murder (Kolb 1123). At this point in life, the child has no say in whether to live or die, thus denying him his rights, denying him the chance to be someone. By denying the life of the child, you also deny society the potential contribution to the life of the future child (ProCon.org). Furthermore, protecting the unborn child is the 14th Amendment which offers “protection of life” (Kolb 1123). In accordance with the right-to-life statute that claims the unborn child as a person, the 14th Amendment states that no one, including a fetus, should be denied equal rights. The big question regarding the idea of the fetus as a person under the protection of these laws is the point at which a fetus becomes a person. With a 2008 movement called the Personhood Movement, an amendment was proposed to the Supreme Court aimed at protecting the rights of a person formed at the moment of conception (Will 575). Jonathan Will, in the American Journal of Law and Medicine, says that… halfway through the article… he processes the loss. In the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, David Reardon and Philip Ney hypothesized that although abortion may increase alcohol and drug abuse, not having an abortion may reduce the same risk of abuse. They stated that by having an unplanned pregnancy, a parent's responsibilities following the birth of the child can reduce the risk of substance and/or alcohol abuse (Reardon and Ney 72). Abortion is an important topic that many have very different opinions on. opinions, but there is nothing good about the murder of innocent children, those children who have not yet had the chance to live, to grow, to learn. Abortion is not just about murder; abortion involves many different complications. It can be harmful to the mother, her health and the psychological health of the father. Abortion doesn't just affect one person; it affects everyone involved.
