1.IntroductionAn important question that humans need to understand is: What is genetic engineering? First, you need a basic understanding of biology. Organisms such as plants and animals contain many cells in their bodies. Each cell has a nucleus which has a number of strings containing what is known as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). It is DNA that is responsible for the genetic engineering of organisms. As the building block of life, DNA constitutes the integral fundamental components of an organism. DNA is responsible for the formation of the organism by determining its growth structure. An organism contains a series of DNA chains that have genes that reflect the design of the organism. Altering the genetic makeup of an organism can affect how that organism will grow and develop. Therefore, through genetic engineering, scientists can alter the genetics of a plant or animal by rearranging the genetic segments of a plant or animal and pairing them with the genes of other plants or animals. This will never happen to any plant or animal naturally, but happens through the alteration of genes by scientists. The objective of this article is to present a critical analysis of the benefits and costs of using genetically modified organisms in society. I argue that the use of genetically modified organisms is potentially dangerous to human health and the environment and that governments should enact strict regulations regarding the use of genetically modified organisms in industrial agriculture.2.
