Course Evaluation on 3D Modeling Concepts I learned a lot about 3D modeling and the ways it can be used. The class first started on September 6, where I was introduced to Klee Miller, a man who had actually worked on a movie, The Polar Express. I have to say I was pretty impressed considering it was what I wanted to do at the time. I came to university thinking that I wanted to work a lot with 3Ds Max and create a lot of special features for films, like Klee Miller did, but now things have changed. As you can see, in this essay I will be brutally honest about my entire experience in this course. I feel like this is the only way I can truly write this essay. The class began by teaching us about the history of 3D modeling and how it was first used in movies like "Superman" and "Terminator 2." This definitely caught my attention, considering I wanted to do exactly what we were talking about, or I did. We then moved on to actually modeling things in the 3Ds Max program. Talking about things like creating basic shapes like circles and squares. We also learned what they were like as polygons and how each object could be modified by adjusting the smaller polygons within it. This was all so new to me and frankly quite boring. I mean, making circles and squares was cool to me when I was in first grade, but being reintroduced to them while I was in college just didn't have enough staying power to hold my interest. So my attention span started to decline a little. But then we got into one of the topics that I found really, really interesting. Next we talked about how you could put a "skin" like feature on top of your models. I got really interested in this because without a good skin for your model, it's just bland and has no real life features. Because in real life things are alive and vibrant and when you start modeling in 3Ds Max, I noticed that things are dull and boring. You are required to bring your objects to life and I learned that you do this with mapping. We learned that there are ways to map to get stunning low-poly images thanks to different game engines that can handle different amounts of polygons.
