Sadly, people who reach the poverty level are really given no opportunity to further their education. In America, it's not common to be given an A+ education. It's not entirely easy to get the best job ever with just a high school diploma. But the cost of college has made the difference between having a well-paying job and having a job that pays immensely for people living in poverty. Poor people are often unable to pay for housing, food, child care, healthcare and education. The cost of living per month for a single, childless person in America is $2,372. Galbraith emphasizes the importance of improving housing across the nation. (Galbraith 405) With unemployment rates remaining high, it is difficult to find work in today's economy.
