Topic > A Thank You Letter - 672

The other day I went to the scouts and we were holding a court of honor. During the honorable court some people got advancements in rank and Brother Ray talked about how they were on the path to becoming Eagle Scouts. For some reason the mention of Eagle Scout made me think of you and how you were a great example to everyone. I know you may not think so, but you were a great example to me and to all the young people when you were here, and now that you are on a mission you are an even greater example. In English class with Mrs. Cranston we watch a movie called “One Small Act” and it was about a lady named Hilde Back who donated money for a child in Africa to go to school and then college. The boy ended up attending college and graduating, eventually founding a charity for other children in Africa to go to school. This got me thinking about all the little acts that happen every day and how they affect me and the people around me. Then I remembered thinking about the Court of Honor and you. I want to thank you for being you and for all the little acts of kindness. I also remember seeing a study that said people who show gratitude are happier than those who don't, and I thought this would be a great way to show yourself some gratitude. I don't just write because of the movie or study I saw, I write mostly because you've been a role model to me, so when I say it's been a long time coming, I mean it. Every Wednesday I would go to activities and see you there socializing and having fun, but I also saw you setting a good example and admired you for that. Three points of your personality that really arouse my admiration are the way you behave at school, how you behave in church and how you behave in the family and... in the middle of the papers... in church or on Wednesdays at group youthful I always knew that if I hung out with you I would be safe and happy. I knew you wouldn't humiliate me or anyone around me. This was a great feeling I got from you, so I tried to follow your example so I could have the same effect on other people. Going on missions and being active in our church is a very worthy cause and earns much appreciation and admiration from me. You may try to shrug your shoulders and say you're not as good as I say, but know that everything I say in this letter I truly stand by and believe with all my heart. There are very few people I hold in as much respect as you. I'm so sorry I haven't written to you once since you've been away, but know that this won't be the last time I write to you either by letter or email.
