12 Angry Men is about 12 men who serve on the jury for an 18-year-old murder accused. The judge states in the opening scene that this is a 1st degree premeditated murder, if found guilty he will automatically receive the death penalty. The boy, 18, is accused of killing his father with a "one of a kind" knife in their home. Prosecutors have several eyewitness accounts and all the evidence they might need to convict the 18-year-old. The film takes place on the hottest day of the year in New York City. There are 12 jurors who will have to decide whether the evidence is enough to convict the teenager of first-degree murder. In the first initial vote it is 11-1. The only way jurors could cast their votes was if there was a unanimous vote of guilty or not guilty among the 12 jurors. As the film progressed, the jurors eventually changed their minds as new evidence was brought to their attention by simple facts that had been overlooked by police and prosecutors during the initial investigation. Tempers rose and words flew, there was bias and laziness among some jurors which affected the amount of time needed to review all the testimony and eyewitness evidence. Eyewitness accounts ended up being disproven and some evidence was discarded because it was presented under false pretenses. The personality of Henry Fonda's character affected the way things went because he was analyzing all the evidence and the whole situation. The character played by Henry Fonda was an architect. In the first initial vote, he was the only one to vote not guilty. This juror, who was no. 8, he made sure to examine all the evidence and eyewitnesses... middle of paper... passed judgment on jurors who were prejudiced against the boy just because he grew up in the slums. The rating I gave this film is C+. The reason I chose to give this movie a C+ is because it had an excellent plot, but the beginning was just a little slow. I liked how the movie went as it started to reach the end. When tempers began to flare and testimonies were “acted out,” that's when the plot began to pick up. When a movie starts slowly, it puts me to sleep or disinterests me. I like movies where someone is proven innocent of something they didn't do and when someone stands up for what they believe is right. At the end of the film an innocent little boy was saved from being put on death row because a juror had the right mind to stand up for what he thought was right.
