IntroductionWe begin to age from the moment we are conceived and continues until death. Most people assume that aging means older person, but this is not true, we all get older with every second we live. It's a natural part of life that everyone in the world goes through. Nowadays, with modern medicine and greater awareness of a healthy lifestyle, people are living longer, with the average life expectancy currently at 81 years in Ireland compared to 1800, when the expectancy of average lifespan was only 40 years. With all the media surrounding young and beautiful models etc. and all the celebrities getting plastic surgery to maintain their youthful appearance make aging an almost scary experience that most people don't want to go through. It's a perfectly natural feeling for someone to fear their own mortality and worry about their future. In this assignment I aim to research and learn as much as possible about the care of an elderly person, the aging process and also the care of a dying person and their family. I will also research and outline conditions relating to an older person or diseases that an older person is at greater risk of, such as stroke, Parkinson's, Alzeihmers and dementia. My goal is to research and discuss recommendations for healthy living and how to promote a healthy lifestyle for an older person. An older person needs more care than a younger person, so it is important that an older person receives regular check-ups and that any conditions they may have or develop are carefully monitored. one of the biggest problems facing our older generation today, their friends may not be there or may be dead and their families may be busy with their own lives. There's plenty of them... half the paper... h it. They fully immerse themselves in retirement and feel a sense of accomplishment for the goals and life events they have gone through. The Terminal Phase This is where the retirement process ends for many different reasons, such as the person is ill, needs to be cared for or they are dying. Another reason for this stage is if a person returns to work, which is usually part-time, in a career in which they have little or no interest or in a career totally unrelated to the one in which they previously worked. Retirement is different for everyone and we should all consider our plans realistically so as not to be disappointed or to plan and prepare for our goals and plans so that we can achieve them when the time for retirement comes. If feelings of anger, depression, remorse or frustration arise, it's good to have a good support system and talk about what's causing them.
