In fact, social media has started a worldwide movement towards this issue with the use of the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls. Many people are tweeting positive and strong messages using this hashtag to make a change. This shows that everyone is in solidarity with the girls who were kidnapped. Furthermore, social media has changed our perception of news. For example, today very few people get their news from newspapers and television. Most news comes from social media sites like Twitter. However, many years ago, the original form of news we received was newspaper articles. In fact, newspaper articles are more reliable than Twitter because on Twitter facts can be modified and are not filtered. Even though Twitter is untrustworthy, I still believe that social media has changed our society into a better place because people are able to come together and express their voices to make a change. For example, the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls received tremendous response and support around the world. This campaign will give hope and courage to the parents of Chibok girls until their daughters return. Additionally, a question centered on this issue that I will ask the class is: Do you believe that the worldwide movement with the use of the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls is effective in helping find Chibok girls? My answer to this question would be yes because it reached people in power, like Michelle Obama. Hopefully these people will take immediate action to find these girls. However, I believe this issue is forgotten. Not many people use this hashtag to talk about the problem and to remind others of it too. Another question centered on this theme that I will ask the class is: why do you think the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls is an important issue for our society?
