This article is very good and shares many important points about why we have a criminal justice system in the first place. Bentham states: “In particular a measure of government, supposed by man to conform to the principle of utility, it may be convenient, for purposes of discussion, to imagine a type of law or dictation, called a law or dictation of utility” (Wright 2007; p. . 19). By this Bentham means that it is easy to see and rather funny that there is a law covering the principle of utility, which allows everyone to know how when there is too much pleasure and a lot of pain. Bentham completely emphasized how our world has two different visions; one is pleasure and the other pain. Everyone desires happiness and pleasure in their life, but sometimes achieving these desires ends up breaking the law. I feel like Bentham really opened my eyes to see that everyone can be extremely greedy and selfish. Everyone only cares about themselves and how they can have more stuff and things they don't need. Thieves, for example, always want to have what others have, and sometimes they do it out of hatred and for this reason they are full of anger.
