Animal Farm is a satirical story written in the form of a fable about animals. The novel is an allegory for the period of Russian history between 1917 and 1944. By writing Animal Farm as a fairy tale, George Orwell is able to present his topic in simple symbolic terms, treating the development of communism as a story that takes place in the world. a unique farm with talking animals. The characters in Animal Farm represent characters from Russian history during the Russian Revolution. Places, objects and events of the Russian Revolution are also symbolized in Animal Farm. One of the main characters in Animal Farm is an allegorical parallel to Joseph Stalin. Napoleon is the pig who emerges as the leader of Animal Farm after the Rebellion. He represents Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in Animal Farm, but he could easily represent any of the great dictators in world history. At first Napoleon appears to be a good leader, but eventually he is overcome by greed and becomes power-hungry. Stalin did the same in Russia, abandoning the original equality of socialism, giving himself all the power and living in luxury while the peasants suffered. While Stalin's national and international status prospered, Russia's well-being remained unchanged. In Animal Farm, Orwell writes something similar: “Somehow it seemed as if the farm had become richer without enriching the animals themselves – except of course the pigs and dogs.” In the novel, Napoleon openly seizes power for himself by using the dogs he has trained to chase Snowball away from Animal Farm. He banishes Snowball without justification and rewrites history to further his own ends. Similarly, Stalin forced Trotsky to leave Russia and took control of Russia. Stalin used his secret... middle of paper... revolt and, in real life, it is estimated that between 4 and 10 million Ukrainian peasants were starved to death by Stalin. In the book, the chickens broke their own eggs to protest Napoleon's action; in real life, Ukrainian farmers slaughtered their own livestock before joining a collective as a form of protest. The problem got so out of hand that Stalin eventually executed any farmer found guilty of engaging in the practice. Animal Farm is an excellent allegory of the period of Russian history between 1917 and 1944. George Orwell symbolizes the characters, places, objects and events of the Russian Revolution superbly. Its symbols not only parallel those of the Russian Revolution, but of any revolution throughout history. The fable Animal Farm refers not only to the Russian Revolution, but also to any revolution in which an absolute dictator emerges.
