“Why is propaganda so much more successful when it foments hatred than when it tries to foment a little friendly feeling?” (Russell). On September 1, 1939, the brutal Second World War had just begun. (When World War II began). This war was the beginning of many racial slurs that carried forward decades into the future. The Nazis knew that propaganda was a very strong and reliable way to persuade people to understand and support their opinions, and it would soon help them change the course of history. The purpose of their persuasion was to bring their nation together to fight against a common goal. enemy (Definition of enemy). They used anti-sematic propaganda for protection and demonstration. They would have allowed the Red Cross to inspect these camps, but before their arrival the Nazis would have renovated the barracks and given a new look to the entire neighborhood. They planted gardens, painted houses and even organized social events. The most important trick they used to deceive them was that they would significantly increase the deportation rate to decrease the population and the number of deaths. As soon as they left, the deportation returned to the normal procedure (Theresienstadt: Red Cross). Representatives forced prisoners to send postcards saying how well they were doing and how easy it was (Nazi propaganda). They also emphasized how evil the Jewish race was. They humiliated them in public by displaying posters humiliating them in every possible way (Nazi propaganda). They often positioned soldiers in front of Jewish-owned shops with signs that read “Germans! Defend yourselves! Don't buy from Jews!” (Bertolli) They would never have limited the association of Jews with parasites and diseases (Defining The Enemy). It's pretty crazy how a few words can convince simple minds.
