Going to the cinema is probably one of the most fun pastimes in the world. From Western society to Asian countries, watching movies is enjoyable for almost everyone. I currently work at the local cinema. This is why I decided to study spectator culture. I've looked at a lot of different aspects over the last few months. I took time for myself, in small, little breaks, to study and document people's actions. From their attitudes when entering and leaving the rooms, to the way they behaved and even the way they dressed. I will enter the field with a general question in mind about what I want to learn. “How do individuals react to each other in a moving experience?” I will also look at how families communicate with each other versus how a group of friends interact. In contrast to the etic or outsider perspective of our viewers, I will adopt an insider or emic perspective of the site and go out on my days off from work and watch a film that portrays a real viewer while no one in this culture within Stars will suspect a thing . I observed the common shared behaviors and adaptation of people coming to theaters from outside culture. My main goal in this assignment was to understand their cultural norms and behaviors with both an emic and etic perspective. Being the only manager on duty most days that I work, I can find time for myself to sit and take a break, while observing our customers. I didn't let anyone know about this ethnography I was working on, much less the viewers I was observing. If I did that, people wouldn't behave naturally towards me. It was in the best interest that no one would recognize me while I was examining them. I was sure that… halfway through the paper… the assignment showed me the different views I have towards viewer culture. It made me understand their main purpose in coming to the cinema with an external view and made me delve deeper into their purpose as a viewer, from an internal perspective. It's been a fun experience for me to get into this particular subculture because of how I can identify with it. Many, if not all, of us are spectators ourselves. Seeing why they come to watch a movie for the purpose of not just watching moving images astounds me. Seeing them escape the harsh realities of life by simply stepping foot through the front door. That's what makes this group really interesting; the fact that we can step outside of ourselves by entering the culture of spectators. This tells us that people in general have this inner ability deep down that guides them through a ladder of happiness.
