Technology is used every single day by the average high school student. The effects are almost always present. Technology is very important in everyone's life, but does it only help or distract today's teenagers in an educational context? With everything that is possible and available for students to use for or against them, technology will influence them to some extent (Singh). Rather, it is a positive or negative effect. Although people tend to directly address the negative effects that technology has on students, such as poor work habits, lack of concentration, or relying completely on technology. There are also many benefits that come with technology, such as advancing your studies, understanding, and even an easy way to communicate to get help. Technology can easily become an addictive substance (Page). Students may use it as an escape from their problems when in reality the technology is only causing them increased future stress. Students are easily distracted, and some can't even bring a technology device with them for fear of being too tempted to take it out. Some students believe that technology is only used as a stress reliever, and while it can be used as such, it is the leading cause of bad grades in today's society (Brown). As time goes by students begin to form the habit of "play before work", properly known as "work before play", when students return home they go straight to playing with their technology rather than finishing their work and then follow it up with stress relief technology. This bad work habit that some students have acquired from technology can lead to them having to cheat to keep their grades from dropping.
