Why does it have to rain? The rain always makes me want to go and hide until the sun comes out. I've always been afraid of the dark, it always comes when it rains, so I have to ask myself: why does it have to rain? As I sit outside the window and look out at the barren landscape, I ask myself this question. My thoughts are interrupted when my father shouts my name. I collected my thoughts and went out into the world, awaiting what my life would be after "The Choice", the day the Darkness finds a teenager to succeed its powers until its successor dies. This is the first time this has happened in over four hundred years. It's been so long since the last choice that no one really knows what to do. We all gather in the town square. It's dusk and we're all scared. You can feel the tension in the air. “It's coming” someone whispers, “It's coming” someone echoes. Then it appears. It comes in like a slow morning fog. He then appears, taking the form of a woman, wearing a black blazer with black hair and silver hair. He calmly says, "I am what you call 'Darkness,' my life will soon come to an end and I wish to choose my successor now." She laughs and smiles calmly, revealing sharp white teeth. “Do I have any volunteers?” She giggles. Nobody moves. “Well, then I guess I get to choose,” he looks into the crowd. “Oh God,” I cry silently, “Please don't choose me.” I open my eyes and his eyes quickly snap towards me. “I always hated being the Darkness, but I learned to love it,” he says as our eyes lock. “I choose you” he says. She turns and starts walking out of the square, "follow me" is all she says, so I follow her. As he walks in front of me he says over his shoulder, "you have a... paper medium... because if you try, you'll go up in smoke like if you set fire to paper." So I also recommend that you try not to do anything fun. He immediately disappeared into the darkness. I began weighing my options, trying to get past Cerberus and somehow, nothing short of miraculously, escape the spell. Or do I stay here and play along with Thana? But there's just one problem with the first scenario. Where would I go? Where am I in the world? As I thought about this, I decided to take a hot shower and try to get some sleep to "work out" in the morning. I slowly open my eyes to the faint light of dawn when I get the feeling that there is someone in the room. Cerberus, I scream. No, the person says. I suggest you come down in an hour for training, otherwise I will be forced to send Cerberus to retrieve you. Yes, ma'am, that's all I could say.
