Unlike the men in Restrepo, the women in The Invisible War wanted to rid themselves of their memories because PTSD was taking over their lives. The women in The Invisible War often attempted to take their own lives. Where as in Restrepo, the soldiers wanted to remember the memories because, as one stated, “it makes them appreciate what they have.” These men accept all their emotions, good and bad, which makes them courageous men. These films show that despite the definition of gender norms contained in the texts, men and women can create their own individual vision of what gender is for them and how they want to act. For example, we see women being strong and men showing fear. Creating your own gender identity is what makes individuals different, which can be linked to Nina Here Nor There. No matter the gender or stereotypes found in previous readings, every individual in Restrepo and The Invisible War is strong and courageous to be part of the military and serve our country, even if it seems like our country hasn't served
