Many communities have been victims of numerous gangs moving into their once safe neighborhoods, causing major disasters and preventing citizens from living their daily lives in peace. Guarino explains how Chicago still surpasses other major American cities in terms of crime rates due to gang violence (Guarino1). There are many reasons as to why there is a lot of gang violence in the city, but the solutions are not that important. In the article “Chicago Tactics Put Major Dent in Killing Trend,” written by Monica Davey, she goes on to explain that “more than 500 people were killed in Chicago in one year, many of them young men shot to death among hundreds of gangs that thrive in Chicago neighborhoods” (Davey) goes on to say that in recent months police officers have been working overtime and have been dispatched to 20 small areas considered the most dangerous in Chicago (Davey). Intense police activity, homicides and gang violence in Chicago have declined. Even as gang violence slows somewhat, many wonder whether the city's climate will continue to worsen....
