In high school he was class president his freshman and senior year. He was an athlete, a musician, and overall a great student. He was well known throughout his community, always active in county level government issues that affected all students. As he got older, people still knew his name and his stardom was still advancing. After graduating from high school in 1974, Williams enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Very impressed with Montel's strength and leadership, his superiors asked him to be placed in the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. He was later accepted into the United States Academy in Annapolis and this is where this star's real struggle begins. The well-known Montel Williams was hit with devastating news that would later change his life drastically and forever.
