In today's society it is very clear that violent crimes, such as murder, would have specific types of punishment compared to other minor crimes. What does not seem clear is what that penalty should be. One phrase that is always under discussion is the death penalty. Examine whether or not the death penalty is ethical. The two aspects of the issue were examined, through investigations on the different aspects of the same, which take into account financial and religious concerns, whether or not the death sentence is a deterrent and whether it can be considered justice or not. What causes most of the debate concerns the religious point of view. Depending on the religion you believe in; the Bible is against or for capital punishment. Bible verses are commonly used to support one's beliefs on both sides of the issue. Today, society is made up of different religious cultures of all kinds. The web shows that there is almost a split between those for and against capital punishment. For example, the Assemblies of God (USA) website does not take a position either against or in favor of the death penalty. Catholics only support the death penalty if there is absolutely no way to stop a person from killing more people, then execution is tolerable. The Baptist believes in Capital Punishment (June 2002), that there must be concrete evidence for the death penalty to be applied for treason resulting in death or murder. The death penalty's rivals are the Presbyterian Church, which states that "The use of the death penalty tends to brutalize the society that condones it." (n.d.) Furthermore, the Lutheran Church is against capital punishment, but understands the administration's authority to use it only if it is too much to keep threats away from society.
