The purpose of morality is to serve as a system of rules and obligations to prohibit particular actions within society, generating cooperative behavior and regulating interpersonal relationships (Fisher, 2013). Based on mutual respect, the goal is for everyone to feel safe within society when they can adhere to the predictability of their actions (Fisher, 2013). Mr. Latimer did not comply with this regulation, taking drastic measures and ultimately causing irreversible harm to his daughter. This is morally and ethically wrong, as it violates not only moral rights, but also political rights and legal rights (Fisher, 2013). Furthermore, Mr. Latimer's actions cannot be morally justified, even if he had his daughter's well-being in mind, Tracy Latimer's human rights were compromised, resulting in a violation that can be explained through the theory of paternalism and the theory of the ethics of care.
