In today's society more and more schools are converting to the use of uniforms. There are people who agree and people who disagree with this conversion; However, is wearing school uniforms good or bad for children? School shouldn't be about fashion and expression, it should be about education; also, uniforms are one of the ways to bring education back to the forefront in schools and it's not about who wears what. The answers you will receive from some children and parents will be yes, for others it will be no. There has been research to show that wearing uniforms helps some children, but what is this research based on? Children are constantly changing and growing, learning about school, the world and their bodies. There is so much going on with kids. We want them to do well in school, that's the ultimate goal, so they can be successful in life. Will wearing school uniforms help them succeed in life? One of the first disadvantages of wearing school uniforms is that children lose freedom of expression. Self-expression is important for children. If children don't express themselves through clothing, they will do so in other ways, such as wearing makeup, jewelry, tattoos and piercings. Wearing uniforms prevents children from being unique, from having their own individuality. Uniforms diminish children's individuality by forcing them to all wear the same clothes. The price of uniforms places a financial burden on low-income families, putting a strain on families. They are families who use second-hand clothes and buy used clothes, which doesn't help for school. It should also be remembered that the school is not open all day. After school the children will run home to put on their other clothes. The kids are still... halfway... together, raising money to make uniforms cheaper and free for students.
