Over the years I had discovered that I was always the one running to help if a friend was injured or needed help. I learned a lot from the time I spent with my grandfather and his caregiver, as well as from my mother during her battle with cancer. I went from being a girl without much experience with illness or loss to a much more understanding and intuitive woman when it came to healthcare. I saw what it was like to be in the midst of suffering and pain with my grandfather, but I also saw the relief and gratitude when he received great care. I learned about the trust and respect a nurse must have when treating patients. I know my grandfather was afraid at times, but my mother and his caregiver were there to ease his pain and worries. I found that a lot of inspiration for my nursing career came from my grandfather's assistant. A woman who didn't have to do anything other than treat his wounds and give him medicine, but chose to care about who he was and how he was doing. She also took the time to get to know and care about the family that surrounded my grandfather. She is a nurse I aspire to be like. If I can bring a little more comfort into the lives of patients and their families, then, I think I encompass one of the great qualities needed to have a nursing career. Another reason why I want to become a nurse comes from my mother. During my grandfather's suffering she was also able to be there to help take care of him. I saw the courage and strength she had while caring for him. He suffered in his own way as his father worsened, but he remained loving and devoted. These are some of the qualities she has acquired through her experience as a nurse for over 25 years. Being part of my grandfather's struggle helped me
