Topic > Types of Learning Skills - 2101

In order to expand your knowledge you must be able to retain information. The probability of remembering everything you feel is so low that approximately only 15 people claim to have eidetic memory. While these lucky individuals can remember more information effortlessly, the rest of us have to study to be able to retain most of the information we want to retain for any need. Many people start studying but ultimately are only able to remember less than half of what they studied. This is difficult to accumulate because many of us study hours and hours and yet we are unable to remember most of it. How is this possible? Studies show that people have different preferences in learning, and our brains remember more based on our stronger learning ability. The three types of learning abilities are auditory, visual, or kinesthetic. Once you know which one will help you remember better, this will help you in the different study styles which are note taking, reading and marking, planning a research paper and time management. Knowing the best strategy and how study styles are related will help us create the best study style that suits us individually. We have three learning abilities. One may be stronger than the other and so we will use that version more in the study. One is called auditory learning. Auditory learning is where you understand best through subtle variations in tone, writing answers to lectures, oral exams, solving challenging problems, telling stories and working in groups. They are best at learning in a communicative form. For example: asking questions during class, a study group, or talking to a professional. The next learning skill is called…middle of the paper…me means managing for success. Everyone has control over how they can focus and prepare for the future. If you find studying difficult, you're probably doing it in a way that isn't right for you. Using the result of the learning inventory, you can learn something about yourself to help you change the way you study. As an auditory learner you learn best with communication. Visual learners learn best with examples and images. Finally, the kinesthetic learns best by practicing and being active. So do what you need to do to stay focused and free yourself from distractions. You can work in a group, email your professor, exercise while you study, listen to music, go to a quiet room, or just do it. Once you find the best way to study, make it a habit. It can take 28 days to break a habit, but only 21 to achieve it. Study hard and taking on a challenge won't be as difficult as you make it seem.
