The Existence of GodFor many centuries the mysteries of our world and the cosmos have plagued humanity. Why the stars light up the night and where the sun disappears every day led our ancestors to create myths to answer these perplexing questions. The existence of God as many Christians worship him today in America is just that: a myth; a construct from our superstitious past that is no longer relevant in the modern world; there is little to no evidence to support the claims made by people of faith nor does it allow for any scrutiny of their claims, seeing secular analysis as a lack of understanding of God's plan. In religion and for people of faith, there are claims made this cannot be proven by any measure, for example the earth is only six thousand years old and man walked with the dinosaurs. Scientists, however, have expressed by their means that the earth came into existence about 4.5 billion years ago due to gravity and violent collisions of the cosmos. Debates still rage in the United States over evolution versus creationism and whether one or the other should be taught in schools. Looking to the Bible, to the book of Genesis, gives believers credence to their claims of creationism. However, Charles Darwin's theory of evolution has been confirmed through the fossil record, with new discoveries coming to light every day. Sherlock Holmes' famous quote, "if you take away the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the solution" would seem to apply as it seems more likely that scientists have an explanation through evidence and experiments which seems more likely than some. omnipotent being who causes all creation to exist. In this case, however, a minimum critical... middle of paper... the closest of friends or family with topics that are sometimes harmful to the relationship. Many of these can be avoided by simply thinking things through, however, the faith versus reason debate will continue as long as there are those who refuse to check their claims against proven data and as more and more claims are made. The US political system is full of wild accusations against those who don't believe what they believe and claims, such as those made about the abortion debate or same-sex marriage, that cannot be verified or proven in any way or in the other. They expect everyone else to take everything on faith, which is exactly what they are trying to avoid by using critical analysis to justify the observations they make. Works Cited Skoch, VAT.
