Topic > Essay on Parent-Child Observation - 2036

This essay attempts to evaluate different parenting approaches through parent-child observation. By observing developmentally appropriate and inappropriate interactions with the parent and child, I will learn how parents teach, guide, and influence their children. First I will briefly describe the background information of the child and parent I observed. Next I will discuss parents' experiences with the transition to parenthood. Throughout the essay I will discuss parenting goals and beliefs, parenting challenges, and reflect on parenting from the parents' perspective. Finally, I will discuss my observation from parent-child interactions. The interview and observation took place in a local park, where my niece and the participant's eldest daughter practice as cheerleaders. The interview lasted one hour, including observation of the child and parent after the interview. The participant I will call Emily (the mom) is Caucasian and 35 years old. Emily's daughter Anna is six years old. The names used in this parent-child observation are fictitious. This is to protect the privacy of the parent and the observed child. Emily is a housewife When Emily walked Anna to her seat, she whispered something in Anna's ear and Anna shouted "no mommy, please." I have observed that Emily is probably an authoritative parent. In the text, authoritative parents are those who balance the interaction between structure and education. When Emily allowed Anna to play, Anna was reluctant and did not cry because her mother was not present, as children who have attachment problems do. Anna enjoyed exploring her environment and playing with other children, independently. Anna appeared to be thriving at a normal social and mental level. She is curious about the world and likes to play with people of the same sex
