The good and bad of technology in our world today I don't remember the exact moment when I first came into contact with a computer. However, the first memory I have is playing the game Madeline, from the children's book and film. It was my favorite pastime when I couldn't play outside due to the weather. It was during this time that I think I first discovered the world of computing. I learned where to insert the game disc, how to start it, and how to put the computer into "sleep mode" when finished. I taught myself because my parents didn't know much about computers. They didn't grow up with them like I did. Eventually computers became second nature to me. I took computer science classes from second grade until I graduated from high school. Every year I learned to type faster and learned about new computer programs. I was taught how to create a Power Point presentation, how to create an Excel spreadsheet, and all the ins and outs of Microsoft Word. Because of this, I felt very comfortable with computers. When I was in elementary school I used the computer to play and draw with Paint. MiddleDeleo, in his article How Tech Has Changed Our Lives, states that technology has made our lives easier because “we are no longer forced to send letters through the postal service, book holidays through travel agents, shop in stores, visit the research library. material, or wait for our photos to be developed." (Deleo, par. 2) As much as I love the technology we have today and the way we are able to get an answer to a question or stay in touch with someone instantly with our computers, phones and tablets, I begin to wonder, is technology becoming a distraction for humans? Do we spend more time on social media, in a somewhat fantasy world, than with our loved ones, here in reality? Now we have our fingers buried in our phones instead of having our heads buried in a
