Fire Brigade Technology:The modern fire service is characterized by increased interaction between the fire brigade and the service in general. The interactions were primarily geared towards producing research findings that can be used to improve the effectiveness and safety of firefighters. As part of the development of appropriate firefighting technology, recent research findings have shown that changes in construction methods and fuel loads have impacted the firefighting environment within residential structures (“ Fire Fighting Research On-Line”, 2013). While the changes have transformed conventional fire behavior, they have also contributed to significant changes in firefighting equipment. The research findings not only led to changes in firefighting behavior and equipment, but also led to the development of firefighting technologies that are currently in use and continue to have a huge impact. Examples of Technologies in Fire Services: The first technology used in fire services is the World Wide Web which has emerged as one of the major means of providing information to users and has been accompanied by tremendous growth in the recent past. Through this technology, users can easily access information without obstacles associated with distance and time (Jennings, n.d.). Ease has been primarily fueled and strengthened by widespread online document distribution that eliminates barriers to information delivery. Firefighters have used this technology primarily to disseminate information on the web. In essence, the World Wide Web is used by fire departments to provide the information needed in analyzing fire department problems and fire policy concerns. As a result, it enables the collection of fire service performance data used to evaluate...... middle of paper ...... the initiatives will also contribute to the increase and advancement of smoke detection devices for use in fire services. Most future initiatives in the fire service industry will focus on advances in smoke detection to improve the efficiency of fire service organizations. In conclusion, fire services have been characterized by increased use of technology due to the growing need to improve public safety and fire protection. Some examples of technologies used in the fire service are the World Wide Web, geographic information system, and advanced signal analysis. While the increased use of these technologies has had a huge impact on current fire service practices, it will influence the future direction of the fire service. This implies that the efficiency and effectiveness of fire service organizations and initiatives in the future will rely on the appropriate use of technology.
