When I talk about a healthy lifestyle, it is not just about having positive relationships, but also about having positive mental health. Honestly, becoming mentally and emotionally strong isn't something that happens overnight. But on days when I am free from depression, anxiety, stress and worry, I am more able to live my life to the fullest. “Scientists have shown that mental states such as stress and depression have a clear influence on the immune system, while some diseases produce predictable changes in mood and behavior, suggesting that psychological and social approaches may have an important role to play in preventing disease or reducing its course (Weiss, 1994).” My mental health is very important to me. I won't have a healthy body if I don't also take care of my mind. My friends and family depend on me. It's important for me to take care of myself, so that I can handle the twists and turns that life throws at me. Whether it's work, the death of a family member, or money, good mental health helps me enjoy life and deal with problems. Just as I take care of my body by eating well and exercising, I can do things to protect my mental health. In fact, one of my favorite things to protect my mental health is to challenge myself every now and then.
