Most people consider the book of Genesis to be the story of how the world was created, but many people do not consider it to be a story of justice, loyalty and family. When people read the play Tartuffe written by Jean-Baptiste Molière, they often think that it is an attempt to expose religious hypocrisy. People often overlook the play that speaks to us about justice, loyalty, and family just as the book of Genesis does. These two literary works share these themes in common and the way they tell us and show them to us are two very different ways. A true test of loyalty is the story of Noah when God told him to build a bow. This was a bigger challenge than many think because it had not rained on the land, so no one knew what rain was. Then Noah built the bow after God said to him: And God said to Noah, I have decided to put an end to all flesh, because the earth is full of violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them together with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ark and smear it with pitch inside and out. (Bible Genesis 6:13-14) This was the commandment that God gave to Noah, and God was counting on Noah's loyalty to build the bow. Once Noah finished building it, God told him to get seven pairs of “all clean animals,” the male and their mating, and an additional pair of animals that were not clean. After Noah had done this and entered the arch, he was 600 years old. He had proven his faithfulness to God, so he let him live. In the book of Genesis we see God test Adam and Eve's loyalty to him by commanding them "you shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden." , and you shall not touch it, lest you die” (Bible Genesis 3:3). Being faithful to God is not always easy: He subjects us to trials and tribulations to test us and see if we remain faithful to him, no matter what happens in our lives. His test can be something as simple as not eating from a tree or having to travel across the country and leave his loved one at home and remain faithful to him.
