Living in poverty my entire life with a single mom, a twin brother, and three younger siblings, constantly having to battle situations that tried to distract me from getting a education, having been born three months premature and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a physical disability that I try to overcome later. Last March I had the privilege of volunteering at the Children's Hospital Cerebral Palsy Adult Transition Longitudinal Study (CPAT) and they said my results were the best they had seen so far among all the other participants because I worked hard and took on activities that I shouldn't have been able to do that and I loved it. The lens through which I look at the world is very different from others. I can help educate others and others can educate me. Together we will grow in ideas, thoughts and practices to create a more inclusive environment for our patients to thrive. As nurses, it is critical to have diverse students so we can help a diverse population
