In the article "Chicago Allows Ownership of Firearms Under Revised Firearms Law" by Mark Guarino dated July 1, 2010, a revised firearms ordinance was issued firearms by the United States Supreme Court that will jeopardize Chicago's twenty-eight year firearms ban. In the article, “It establishes new rules that people who own firearms must register their firearms with the Chicago Police Department, must attend classroom and shooting range training, and must obtain both a permit special citizen that a state firearms identification card." .” They want to ban all aspects of gun ownership in the home, but we are protected by the Second Amendment. As stated in the article, “Guns are for self-defense and self-defense only.” People have the right to own guns, but to avoid any type of gun-related injury, they should not have any type of gun in their home in the first place. This article refers to concepts we discuss in class such as the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment, civil liberty, and civil rights. I link this article to the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment establishes the right to bear arms. In our textbook American Government Power and Purpose the author states: “The point and purpose of the Second Amendment is the provision of militias; they were to be the government's support for maintaining local public order. At the time of the Founding, militias were intended to be military or police assets for state governments, and militias were specifically distinguished from armies and troops, which fell under the sole constitutional jurisdiction of Congress. (pg. 89) The Second Amendment states that public officials are the only ones who can have the right to bear arms because they are the ones who support the...... middle of the paper ......happen to it. These types of situations should not be taken lightly because they really affect everyone? I really don't think everyone knows this and when they knew they would be scared but not think of a way to fix this problem. This gun law that was passed is meant to help people not be so scared of their surroundings and feel safe in the area where they live.
