Airport SecurityOn September 11, 2001, twenty Arab men boarded four different planes with the intent of attacking our country. They boarded the planes with the intent to cause enormous damage to New York City and Washington, DC. Two planes crashed into each World Trade Center tower, one plane crashed into the Pentagon, and the final plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field. These twenty men took more than 3,000 lives. The innocent people who died did not need their lives taken in the way they were. However, they lost their lives because they were Americans and, for the terrorists, they defended certain principles. How could these terrorists board these planes with the weapons they used to seize power? The answer to this question is simple: airport security was virtually non-existent. Anyone could be in the terminal. Friends and family may be with the passenger until the moment the passenger passes through the gate. However, since that fateful day, security at airports has been tighter. Now, before boarding a plane, passengers must pass through an X-ray machine and a metal detector before entering the terminal. Sometimes they have to submit to random searches at the plane gate. One question raised by tougher security measures is whether these security measures invade people's personal rights. Airport security has changed since 9/11, but this change isn't always a good thing. One of the biggest changes that has happened in airport security is that more searches are being done. As a result of the increase in the number of searches carried out, more and more people are seeing their right to privacy violated.
