Nixon initially denied having anything to do with the break-in. Nixon gave three major speeches related to the scandal. During a televised event he was forced to give up the Oval Office recordings of his conversations about the scandal, eighteen minutes of the recordings were missing and have not yet been found (Parnass). Many thieves were arrested inside the DNC office in the Watergate building in Washington, DC. The thieves were connected to Nixon's reelection campaign and were caught trying to tap phone lines and steal classified information. No one really knows if Nixon knew about this incident before it happened, but he later began raising money to keep everything under wraps. In August 1974, after everything came out, Nixon resigned from office. Nixon was never prosecuted, however, he changed the way Americans thought about the presidency. Despite everything, the Watergate Hotel is still one of the nicest and most beautiful hotels in the city
