Teenagers under the legal drinking age should not drink, nor should it be lowered. Researchers say giving alcoholic drinks to those under 21 could create a lethal addiction and they would not be responsible for drinking. If teenagers drink a certain amount of alcohol, alcohol poisoning could be fatal. “Alcohol can enter the bloodstream; binge drinkers can ingest a fatal dose of alcohol before passing out.” (“Binge drinking can be fatal”). The legal minimum age should not be lowered, teenagers under 21 are not responsible for intoxication and these include car accidents, homicides, suicides and other injuries. I'll tell you why minors shouldn't drink, how alcoholic beverages affect teenagers, and why the legal minimum age shouldn't be lowered. People under the age of 21 should not drink alcohol for one, it is illegal and could have the risk of becoming addicted and other variety of consequences. For example, you could get in trouble with the law because for some, alcoholic drinks could result in being violent and aggressive towards other people. Furthermore, having difficulty paying attention in school, drinking alcohol can mutilate the functioning of the brain; it could be a long-term effect. You might mortify yourself by doing random, embarrassing things in public that you wouldn't do when you're sober. Additionally, you may end up having unprotected sex with a random person and absolutely not know or remember who it was. With caution, getting pregnant and possibly a sexually transmitted disease could be another risk factor. “Alcohol use significantly increases a teen's chance of being involved in a car accident, homicide or suicide.” (“Nemours Foundation”).
